A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I’m Laura, originally from Central Otago, New Zealand. I’ve always loved making things, travelling and being outdoors. A few adventures along the way eventually brought me to Cairns, which has been home ever since.

THE BEGINNING

I first tried jewellery making through an evening course at TAFE, and a few years later found myself signing up again.

Laura Scott Studio really started taking shape around the time Archie was born - tinkering with metals, building a website during nap times and figuring things out as I went.

After one of many internet deep dives, I discovered sandcasting, ordered a kit and was hooked. I love the unpredictability of it, working with molten metal, experimenting with different forms and, especially, opening the flask after a pour to see what’s inside.

DISCOVERING SANDCASTING

THESE DAYS

These days I work as a drafter while studying building design, with jewellery fitting in around family life.

I’ve stepped back from markets this year to focus on study, but I still love making when I can.

I love working with my hands, experimenting with different materials and making pieces that aren’t too perfect or polished.

My jewellery is organic, a little quirky and made for everyday wear. No two pieces are ever quite the same.
